Purpose Before Pews
In March 2011, as part of the legacy of the Papal Visit to the UK, representatives from across England and Wales gathered for a unique event to focus on outreach and ministry to non-churchgoing Catholics.
Three bishops and representatives from 19 dioceses and a broad cross-section of Catholic organisations came together to pray, share experiences and good practice. The resources offered here came out of that gathering.
Fr Christopher Jamison OSB gave a thought-provoking address:
"The baptised know their purpose in Christ and are called to invite others to come to that knowledge too. The biggest obstacles are not the usual suspects such as materialism or apathy. The biggest challenge is that people are busy, happy and spiritual."

The Opening Liturgy was adapted from the Morning Prayer of the Divine Office for that day. The Gospel reading for the day was the Prodigal Son. The final liturgy and commissioning was prepared specially for the conference. Please feel free to adapt it for your purposes observing liturgical norms. See: liturgyoffice.org.uk
