Introducing the Bakhita Initiative

The Bakhita Initiative embodies the union of the Roman Catholic Church in its local, national and universal dimensions in communion with Pope Francis and expresses the Church’s commitment to support those who have experienced human trafficking. There are four main elements to the initiative.

The Bakhita Foundation

The Bakhita Initiative will be overseen by the Bakhita Foundation, which will co-ordinate all the work of the Initiative. The key stakeholders of the Bakhita Foundation are the Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales, Caritas Westminster, and the Metropolitan Police.

The Bakhita Institute for Research into Human Slavery

The Institute will focus on prevention, through the delivery of an awareness raising campaign and a customised training programme that will be rolled out at parish and community levels for those at the forefront of combating this trade.
