The newly appointed fifth Bishop of Arundel and Brighton, the Rt Rev Richard Moth, has asked for prayers as he looks ahead to his new role.
Pope Francis announced the appointment in Rome on 21 March 2015.
“It is a great privilege to have been appointed by Pope Francis as the new Bishop of Arundel and Brighton and I am very conscious of the trust that has been placed in me,” said Bishop Moth.
“In these last fifty years since the foundation of the Diocese, so much has been done to build up the Church and in the proclamation of the Gospel and, with God’s help, I look to guide and serve the Diocese to that same end.
“I am especially grateful to Archbishop Peter Smith for all he has done in recent months to support and guide the Diocese.”
Bishop Moth reserved warm words for the Forces community he has served as Catholic Bishop of the Forces since 2009:
“It has been wonderful, over these past five and half years, to work with the chaplains and so many people from the Armed Forces community and all those who serve as members of the Royal Navy, the Army and the Royal Air Force will always have a special place in my thoughts and prayers.
"I ask for the prayers of the People and Clergy of the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton as I prepare for the years that lie ahead that together we be open to the promptings of the Holy Spirit in the service of Christ and his Church."
