Archbishop prays for Christian Unity at service marking 50th Anniversary of ‘Unitatis Redintegratio’

At a service tonight in Northampton Cathedral, the Archbishop of Birmingham, the Most Rev Bernard Longley, will say that Unitatis Redintegratio, marked the first time that the “teaching authority, the Magisterium of the Pope and Bishops assembled together, had formally and with humility recognised the graces and gifts bestowed by Christ beyond the communion of the Catholic Church.”

Bishop for Migrants calls on UK and European governments to find a way to receive refugees

In a homily to mark the World Day for Migrants and Refugees, 18 January, Bishop Patrick Lynch has appealed to the UK and European governments to find a way to receive people who are refugees - especially unaccompanied children who are forced to “leave their homes and their country because of violence, war or persecution.”

Bishops call for human dignity as basis for peace in Holy Land

"We came to pray with and support the Christian community and to promote peace and human dignity in this divided land. We witnessed the tragic consequences of the failure of both local and international politicians to advance peace. Human dignity is given by God and is absolute. The ongoing conflict assaults the dignity of both Palestinians and Israelis, but in a particular way our commitment to the poor calls us to lift up the suffering people in Gaza."

Bishop Marcus Stock returns to Birmingham for Thanksgiving Mass

The Bishop of Leeds, the Right Reverend Marcus Stock returned to St Chad’s Cathedral, Birmingham on Tuesday, 13 January, for a Mass of Thanksgiving “not for (his) consecration as a bishop”, but for “the love, support and nurture of (his) faith” received from the parishioners and religious during his 27 years as a priest in the Archdiocese of Birmingham.

Bishops celebrate Mass in Bethlehem Carmelite Convent founded by soon-to-be declared saint

Bishops from around the world taking part in this year's Holy Land Co-ordination today celebrated Mass at the Carmelite Convent in Bethlehem. The Carmel was founded by Mariam Baouardy - Sister Mary of Jesus Crucified - a Palestinian Discalced Carmelite nun who will soon be declared a saint.
