Bishop Tom Burns of Menevia preaching a homily

Sunday 29th September, 2013 was a double celebration for the Diocese of Menevia, being the patronal feast and a day of confirmation by Bishop Tom Burns. He concelebrated Mass with Parish Priest Fr Jimmy Sebastien, during which ten candidates received the sacrament of Confirmation.

In his homily, Bishop Tom likened the confirmants to the Apostles, emphasizing the necessity to persevere with the Faith throughout life.

After Mass there was a colourful and vibrant procession through Brecon town centre with Welsh pipes and drum in the vanguard. The weather was sunny and warmly autumnal which added to the feeling of festivity. Calon Lân was played until the monument and then other hymns were sung on the return route. The congregation gathered again in St Michael’s church and prayed for peace in Syria and Middle East and then the novena prayer to St Michael. All participants were awarded special St Michael pens as a memento.

Next was a delicious luncheon in the Hall which was organised largely by the Union of Catholic Mothers Brecon who bought individual platters that varied from a delectable smoked salmon to a remarkably tasty Indian rice and curry.

Thanks are due, and were expressed towards the Confirmation instructors Sister Aloysius, Mrs Helen Howe and Mrs Jane Sandells.
