Prayer of the Faithful for the Solemnity of the Ascension, 8 May 2016

29/04/2016 12:00 pm

Below is the suggested Bidding Prayer for use on the Solemnity of the Ascension and World Communications day, 8 May 2016.

Today we look forward to living with the Lord for ever in heaven.
With great confidence, and filled with hope, let us bring our prayers to God.

God is king over the nations. God reigns on his holy throne.
May today’s feast give us the strength to live as subjects of the Kingdom.
Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer

Today celebrates the day Our Lord commissioned us to do His work on earth.
May the Holy Spirit clothe us today and every day with power from on high.
Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer

Pope Francis has asked us all to be merciful in the ways we communicate.
May we see Christ in the faces of all the people we meet and honour Him in them.
Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer

Many people feel bewildered and alienated. The world neither sees nor hears them.
May God help us to see, hear and care for those in our midst who suffer in this way.
Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer

Too often we are silent in the face of criticism of the Church and of our faith.
May we be courageous, always explaining our faith with gentleness and reverence.
Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer

We pray for those who have recently lost someone they love,
that God may help them see that the life of their loved one is changed, not ended.
Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer

We ask the Mother of Mercy to help us, as we recite the Hail, Holy Queen.
Hail, Holy Queen…

We turn to God and offer Him our private prayers in a moment of quiet and calm.

Father of life,
You remind us through Saint John of the Cross that, as we leave this world,
we shall be judged on the basis of love. Help us to love people as you love them.
We ask you this through Christ Our Lord. Amen
