John 19: 24-27

After the ‘wondering’ about what struck you, or caught your attention, continue to talk about the Mary, with the Beloved Disciple, standing at the foot of the Cross.

Some of the following questions might help the conversation:

  • What does this bring to mind in your own life experience?
  • What is it like to ‘stand and watch’ one you love suffer? Or to sit with one you love who is dying?
  • What ‘heart stretching’ experience do you bring?
  • How do you experience God in all of this?

The key questions to draw the conversation together might be:

  • How does this story ‘speak’ to us about our ‘call’ to be a family?
  • How does it speak to our ‘journey’?
  • How does it speak to us about our ‘purpose’ or ‘mission’ as a family?
  • What support do we need from the Church?
  • What is already available? What needs to be developed?
  • From our family life experience, what might we offer that could enrich the life of the Church?
