Every Advent, our cycle of prayer invites us to reflect on ‘openness to the Word of God’. Bible Sunday, which falls on the Second Sunday of Advent, is a helpful opportunity for us to reflect in our parishes about how we can engage more deeply with the words of Scripture.

Resources for parishes are being provided for Catholic Bible Sunday which falls on 8 December 2013.

Bishop Kieran Conry, Chair of Bishops' Conference Department for Evangelisation and Catechesis, and James Catford, CEO of Bible Society, write:

"There is an opportunity for us to truly celebrate and give thanks to God, for the gift of the Scriptures... It is our hope that by providing some online resources for you to help mark Bible Sunday in your local community, you might rediscover afresh the joy of this encounter with Christ through the Scriptures."

Our resources have been produced by the Bishops' Conference Scripture Working Group chaired by Rev Dr Adrian Graffy, supported by Bible Society. We have sections offering children’s resources, newsletter inserts, a commentary on the Sunday Readings and other scripture resources.

We have a section for prayers to use as part of the liturgy.

A Commentary on the Sunday Readings by Fr Henry Wansbrough OSB.

Children’s Liturgy
Here you will find resources from Wednesday Word for use in families.

Response: Sharing the Scriptures
In this section you will find examples of Scripture verses you could include in your Christmas cards, and a downloadable sheet of Scriptures ready to print onto labels.
